From CCNA certification to Cisco CCNA career
CCNA certification is basically a foundation level Cisco networking certification. The Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification is a validation of a person’s capability of installing, configuring, operating and troubleshooting networks and medium sized routes. Also, added to the list is the capability of implementing and verifying the connections to the various remote sites within a WAN. On completion of the course and acquiring the certification, a candidate will be well equipped to perform the above mentioned tasks and other networking and maintenance duties. Also the CCNA candidates will have good knowledge regarding the working of different protocols such as IGRP, IP, Serial, IP RIP, Ethernet, VLAN’s and the Access Lists.
To acquire the CCNA certification, there are no specific pre-requisites that are mandatory. Though, undoubtedly, the CCNA Certification is essentially targeted towards those with some prior networking knowledge and some experience. For those, without any prior networking knowledge or experience could opt for an entry-level networking certification like CompTIA’s Network+ as a step towards the CCNA certification.
CCNA certification acts as a pre-requisite for other advanced certifications of Cisco like the CCNP, CCIE and CCSP. So, this means that those candidates who want to pursue any of these advanced Cisco certifications would have to first take the CCNA step.
Candidates for CCNA certification can resort to any one of the two routes for clearing the CCNA certification. They could either opt for two individual exams – 640-821 INTRO & 640-811 ICND or could simply take one combined and a larger exam 640-802 of course, both exams will test you for the same syllabus and contents, no matter what route you opt for. It totally depends on the candidate’s style and capacity of studying, and he can opt for any of the routes accordingly.
The CCNA certification remains valid only for a span of three years, after the expiry of which, the candidate will have to recertify himself to stay a valid CCNA certified candidate. A CCNA candidate can clear any CCIE exam to remain CCNA certified or simply would have to clear another CCNA exam.
